IACT Statement on Uvalde and Mass Shootings

May 31, 2022/in Educational Resources/by SameerIACT

BRAVE Communities’ message on the Uvalde shooting captures IACT’s sentiments exactly, therefore we have reposted BRAVE’s message below. BRAVE’s mission is to cultivate BRAVE spaces for diverse people to come together and Build Relationships Awareness Voices Engagement so we can co-create connections for more just and equitable communities. You can learn more about BRAVE here.

We are beyond heartbroken over the horrific shootings which have plagued our nation and our own state in these last few weeks, including the hate crime at a Korean hair salon in Dallas, the racially motivated attack in Buffalo, and the mass shooting last week in Uvalde. As we process these horrific tragedies, IACT joins our wider community’s urgent demands for serious reform with public safety measures and laws to end gun violence.

For ways to help the Ulvade community, please see below a list of resources compiled by Texas Monthly:

  • Donate money at GoFundMe with verified fundraisers.
  • Donate money for medical expenses directly to the City of Uvalde, which is accepting checks mailed to City of Uvalde, P.O. Box 799, Uvalde, Texas 78802, according to a Facebook post from the city.
  • H-E-B, which has a store in Uvalde, will allow customers to donate directly to a Uvalde fund at stores across the state or when placing orders for curbside pickup or home delivery. Shoppers can donate $1, $3, $5, $50, or $100 at checkout.
  • For those looking to request action from their elected officials, the League of Women Voters of Texas published an interactive map to help Texans find their local officials.Further resources and ways to help are provided by Texas Monthly here.
