IACT stands in solidarity with the African American community
Like many, we have watched recent events of police brutality with horror and consternation and seen the resulting anguish and frustration expressed by people across the country. It has been difficult to see our country experience so much pain and suffering.
IACT’s core values are democracy, inclusion, diversity, secularism, and the rule of law. We recognize that there is a legacy of systemic racism in the United States that touches every aspect of life. We stand in solidarity with our African American sisters and brothers, as we do with all peace and justice loving Americans.
We also stand with the peaceful protestors advocating for reform and justice. We believe strongly that all voices should be heard, and that diversity in thought and opinion ultimately leads to the best outcome for all. IACT also firmly supports the fair and equal administration of the rule of law, therefore we condemn the violence and criminal behavior that distracts from those seeking positive change through peaceful means.
IACT’s mission calls on us to lead our community to greater political and civic engagement. We invite all to join us in our 2020 initiatives to:
(1) ensure a complete count in Census 2020
(2) encourage education and participation in the 2020 elections
(3) build future leaders through our student internship program.
These initiatives advance the cause of social justice and equality, but over a long-time horizon. In the upcoming weeks and months we will look for ways that we can make a more immediate impact, but for now, we are actively focused on listening, learning, and supporting.
